Elite is the highest level of gymnastics. In 2002 at the age of nine, Ivana began competing as a pre-elite. In 2004, she qualified for the Junior International Elite level, which is for elite gymnasts under the age of sixteen. 2007 was Ivan's first year at the Senior level, though she was only fourteen-years-old. The rules state that any gymnast turning sixteen during the Olympic year may begin competing at the senior level in the year before the Olympics. Because Ivana will turn sixteen in December 2008, she was just old enough for the 2007 World Championships and 2008 Olympic Trials!
