The American women are the 2007 World Gymnastics Champions!!! Ivana and teammates Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Sam Peszek, Alicia Sacramone, and Shayla Worley finished almost a full point ahead of China (silver) and over five points ahead of Romania (bronze). This is only the second time in history that the American women have won the World title, and it is especially significant because it's the first time they've won on foreign soil. Ivana and the US women's gymnastics team are in first place following the qualification round of the 2007 World Championships! Ivana competed on uneven bars and balance beam, earning scores of 14.800 and 14.325 respectively. The US team total of 245.025 placed them almost four points ahead of China in second and Romania in third, and this also qualified the US for the 2008 Olympic Games. The team finals competition, which will determine the 2007 World Champions, take place this Wednesday September 5th. Ivana competed in her first senior Nationals this past week at the 2007 Visa Championships in San Jose. She had an excellent competition, debuting several new skills and making both the US Senior International Elite Team and the World Championship team!
